Basic Knowledge on Characteristics on Industrial Effluents.
Waste water are categorized as domestic waste water or industrial waste water.The characteristic of the effluent are usually defined in terms of their physical,chemical and bacteriological parameters.
Contaminants in the effluent can be also be categorized as organic or inorganic substances. Some organic material such protein, carbohydrates and fats can be easily degraded microorganisms (biodegradable) and others that more stable cannot be easily broken down by microorganism or recalcitrant (non biodegradable-
refractory).
Industrial effluents can also described by oxygen demand (DO).Two most widely used are Biochemical oxygen demand and Chemical Oxygen demand.
